Indoor Air Quality Monitoring Systems

The negative effects of poor air quality in indoor spaces affect many people, as it has been proved that city inhabitants spend a 60-80% of their time indoors, in places that are more or less polluted. Thanks to IAQ technology, wireless networks can be created indoors to transmit real-time information about breathing air to apps that the user can see from a computer, mobile phone or tablet. This helps decide when it is necessary to renew the air and ensure the quality of breathing air. IAQ brings high reliability air quality sensors for professional applications. IAQ has been designed for working centres, classrooms, hospitals, conference rooms, garages, labs, cinemas, theatres, etc.; that is, any indoor area for public attendance.



ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 55 is the American Standard that establishes the ranges of environmental conditions to achieve the optimal thermal comfort inside buildings. The Standard is assessed by subjective evaluation and defines the best indoor temperature for user satisfaction ranges between 20 to 22ºC (68 to 72 ºF).


Barometric pressure affects to dew point and water condensation and is also related to the air flows causing bacteria, dust and other airborne pollutants. If air pressure in the room is lower than outside, contamination from the room does not flow out into surrounding areas. Otherwise, higher pressure inside a room, will keep out pollutants.


A high relative humidity decreases sweating effectiveness in its body temperature control function, so more sweat is produced is temperature goes high, generating discomfort and sultriness. A low relative humidity cause dryness and itching. Optimal comfort is achieved with a relative humidity in the 30-60% range.


CO Carbon Monoxide is a silent killer. It cannot be sawn or smelled. CO are in the air whenever fuel or other carbon-based materials are bunt. CO can cause dizziness, headaches, vomits and finally death. Event at low levels, long term exposition to CO can cause chronical hearth diseases and/or EPOC. New-borns, infants, pregnant women, elderly and people affected with respiratory diseases are the top-risk profiles. Vehicles, gas stoves, barbecues, generators and poorly maintained ventilation equipment are the most common CO sources at indoor locations.


Breathing becomes more difficult as carbon dioxide levels rise, causing tiredness and making harder to get focused. Rest and sleep quality are also affected by CO2. In closed areas, high levels of carbon dioxide can lead to health complaints such as headaches.


Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are usual components in many building materials such as plywood, glues, paintings and personal care products (perfume, hair-sprays, lacquer, burnishes, etc.). Other VOC sources are burning gases, wood or tobacco. Exposure to VOCs can cause eye, nose and throat irritation, shortness of breath, headaches, fatigue, nausea, dizziness and skin problems. Higher concentrations may cause irritation of the lungs, as well as damage to the liver, kidney, or central nervous system. Long-term exposure may also cause damage to the liver, kidneys or central nervous system. People affected with asthma are more exposed to VOCs effects.


PM2.5 (particles less than 2.5 micrometers in diameter) can penetrate deeply into the lung, irritate and corrode the alveolar wall, and consequently impair lung function. PM2.5 may therefore be capable of carrying various toxic stuffs, passing through the filtration of nose hair, reaching the end of the respiratory tract with airflow and accumulate there by diffusion, damaging other parts of the body through air exchange in the lungs. The elderly and those with pre-existing cardiopulmonary problems are more exposed to PM2.5 effects.


Exposure to high concentrations of PM10 can result in health impacts ranging from coughing and wheezing to asthma attacks and bronchitis to high blood pressure, heart attack, strokes and premature death. The young and old and persons with existing medical conditions are most likely to be adversely affected by exposure to high PM10 concentrations.

Quality Monitoring System

The EQ devices make it possible to create wireless measuring networks for air quality. Their sensors collect data in places where there are no air quality stations, or can be used as complements to the stations, to widen their scope. Thanks to EQ cloud connections, the users receive real-time data on air pollution in their computers, mobile phones or tablets. This speeds up the decision making process in adverse situations.



Casing The Nanoenvi EQ equipment is installed inside a high-resistant casing built by ASA Luran. This enclosure provides the equipment with an IP66 protection level, ensuring its correct performance outdoors and in industrial surroundings.


The Nanoenvi EQ stations are integrated in IoT networks through the usual M2M protocols (3G, WiFi, 6lowpan, ZigBee®, LoRa®…). ENVIRA’s technical team handles the integration of the EQ stations in the IoT platform selected by the client, so that they are real Plug’n’Play devices.


Equipped with an Atmel SAM4 microcontroller and a 160KB SRAM memory, Nanoenvi EQ has a high capacity for computation to perform filters, aggregations or any other kind of Edge processing of data before the transmission. Nanoenvi EQ has specific modules for the most common management of environmental signals: aggregated, buffers, signal smoothing, identification and notification of alarms, etc.


The Nanoenvi EQ environmental monitoring stations enable real-time collection of signals, both analogical and digital, from almost a hundred homologated sensors. Each sensor installed in the Nanoenvi EQ devices is carefully calibrated at ENVIRA’s certified laboratory in order to reach the maximum accuracy, strength and stability of the measurement. Nanoenvi EQ is the only equipment with the same features that has integrated a sample collection system, thus avoiding the sensorics’ direct exposure to the outdoors and guaranteeing the stability of the measurement and the preservation and durability of the sensors.

Monitoring System

The AG devices enable the creation of networks of wireless sensors to monitor, predict and optimize the management of agricultural resources in real time, thanks to their connection in the cloud. These networks provide a stricter control of farms, quitar thus controlling diseases, regulating fertilizers and, in general, optimizing resources. Thanks to our device with wireless sensors connected to the cloud, the manager of a farm can have real-time knowledge of its state from a computer, mobile phone or tablet, in order to make immediate decisions and thus increase the productivity of the crops and the profitability of the farm.

The Nanoenvi AG device has been created to be installed both outdoors (fields, roads, forests, etc.) and indoors (storehouses, greenhouses, etc.). Thanks to the energy harvesting system (with solar panel) and to their low consumption, the Nanoenvi AG devices can work autonomously for an indefinitely period of time.

IoT Device

The electronics of the Nanoenvi AG device has been completely designed by ENVIRA to adapt to the specific needs of Smart Agro applications, minimizing consumption and providing connectivity to all the specific sensors in the field (meteorological, gas, dendrometer, hygrometer, pH sensors, etc.) The Nanoenvi AG equipment has the computation capacity required to process the information collected, issue (quitar business) rules to detect events (and notify the user by an alert system) or make algorithms for an initial analysis of the data collected (Edge). All the AG devices are delivered totally integrated in the IoT or Smart Agro platform chosen by the client.


The Nanoenvi AG equipment has 6 connectors for sensors, both analogical and digital. Nanoenvi is compatible with several types of sensors: meteorological (temperature, humidity, pressure, rainfall, solar radiation, etc.), gas (H2S, CO, CO2, SO2, etc.) or agricultural (humidity of the leaf, pH of the soil, dendrometers, etc.). Each sensor chosen to be installed in a Nanoenvi AG equipment, notwithstanding its type, is carefully prepared and calibrated at ENVIRA’s certified calibration laboratory, thus ensuring the maximum accuracy, stability and reliability of the measurements.
